It demonstrated that an honest individual who is funny, who defends himself, who enjoys life, who is always himself is often punished and destroyed by other people. It's only one the strongest impression about this great movie among others I have. This is neither comedy nor tragedy but is a tragicomedy which makes it even more realistic since our life is just that. Another strongest idea: good intentions in fact are horrible, they may lead to deadly consequences like we saw in this masterpiece...

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is definitely in my top five films of the 1970's up there with the The Godfather, The Godfather Part 2, Star Wars, and Jaws. This is just a flat-out perfect film and I could not say anything to criticize about this amazing film.
This movie is pretty much about some guy named McMurphy, a patient at a mental hospital, who wants to change the routine of the hospital. But Nurse Ratched will not stand for that.
This and Chinatown are the films that brought Jack Nicholson into the public spotlight. He is just too darn good in this film. I also loved the performance by Louise Fletcher as Nurse Ratched. She is not the typical villain per se, but she affects her patients psychologically rather than physically. I also mention actors such as Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, and Brad Dourif because they were all really good.
This movie certainly deserves the Oscars it won back in 1976. Also the score, cinematography, and the rest of the film is just too good. My favorite scene is the fishing trip that I felt brought the inmates closer together. I cannot see how anyone would dislike this. I rate this film 10/10.

If one wants to see a movie that really reflects the way the system works, more often than seldom, one should watch "ONE FLEW OVER THE COOCOO'S NEST. This movie portrays the life of a convicted felon name "Mc. Murphy" this man is convicted of statutory rape and is sent to prison. Once in prison he comes up with the idea of faking his mental sanity in order to avoid been sent to the penitentiary. So he is sent to a mental institution so that he can be evaluated, he is supposed to be in there e for about 12 weeks only. Everything goes well according to his plans; He meets all the patients that will be living with him for the next 12 weeks. Among them there is a very tall Indian man everybody calls 'Chief. Chief doesn't speak, nor hears, so everybody believes. As soon as gets to the ward he starts defying the rules and guidelines of the institution. These rules and guidelines are enforced by the head nurse of the ward, Ms. Ratchet. Ms. Ratchet is a very dominant woman who in the course of her career has won the respect of her colleagues. Her opinions are highly regarded by everybody in the ward and the community too. doesn't know this and he begins to go against Ms.Ratchet's rules. This lands him in big trouble on the long run. When is time for his evaluation He thinks he is going to be let go, but is here the turning point of the movie, after all the doctors agree that he should be sent somewhere else Ms. Ratchet tells the board that she believes that needs help and would like to keep him in the ward. The board does not reject her petition and stays. This really wasn't in 's plans. When he realizes that he is not being let go because of Ms.Ratchet's opinion, He gets really concerned about his staying in the ward. But life goes on for couple of weeks, then one night, after he bribes a guard on Christmas eve, two of his girlfriends sneak in the ward with lots of alcohol and music, they have a great party and end up so drunk that they passed-out. The next morning Ms. Ratchet walks in and finds a complete mess in the ward. She orders everybody to be round-up and accounted for. One of the patients, Billy' is found in one of the rooms with a woman this is really unacceptable to Ms.Ratchet, she demands to know who is responsible for this, Billy has no choice but to tell on, then Billy is sent to a room by himself where he commits suicide. All the blame is 's, so he is punished and is giving electroshocks; He was giving so much that he is almost killed. His friend Chief knows that he is going to suffer a lot so he decides to kill Mc. Murphy and finish his suffering. After that Chief smashes a water fountain against the window and escapes. Bottom line is no matter how shrew a person thinks is, if you go against the system more often than seldom, you are going to lose.
